Thereasa Hulgan Named AMLA’s Membership Recruitment and Film Services Coordinator
Decatur, Ala. (May 30, 2023) – The Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association (AMLA) announces the hiring of Thereasa Hulgan as membership recruitment and film services coordinator. She began her new position on May 25, 2023.
In her role as membership recruitment and film services coordinator, Hulgan reports to President/CEO Tami Reist. She is responsible for seeking and recruiting new members, maintaining contact with current members, striving for 100% membership retention for the organization, researching and scouting viable film location sites in North Alabama and working in cooperation with the state film office to identify North Alabama locations that match with the specific needs of a film production.
“We are excited to welcome Thereasa to our tourism team,” said President/CEO Tami Reist. “She has proven herself to be an asset to this organization while serving on AMLA’s board of directors and has been instrumental in leading our efforts for many years. She brings with her a passion to make a positive impact on the North Alabama region and her expertise and knowledge in membership recruitment, event planning and with consumer travel shows while leading the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is a welcome addition to our organization.”
Hulgan steps in the role of membership recruitment and film services with 20 years of tourism and recruitment experience. Before joining AMLA, she was the executive director of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism where she was responsible for the advertising, economic development and retail recruitment, managing the Chamber’s booth at fishing, sport and outdoor shows, membership recruitment, and event and meeting planning for fishing tournaments, golf tournaments, the Chamber’s annual meetings and other special functions. Her prior experience includes 23 years of bookkeeping and administrative duties.
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead AMLA’s membership recruitment and film services efforts,” said Hulgan. “I have worked with AMLA and the staff for 20 years through the Cherokee County Chamber’s membership with the organization. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love north Alabama. I look forward to growing AMLA’s membership and the film industry in north Alabama and building new relationships.”
Thereasa’s resume also includes a long list of civic service. In addition to serving on AMLA’s board of directors, she served as chair and a member of the board of directors for the Alabama Bass Trail, board member for the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama, Weiss Lake Improvement Association, Appalachian Highlands Scenic Byways, East Alabama Regional Planning Commission and Development, East Alabama Workforce Council, Alabama Scenic River Trail, Lookout Mountain Parkway, Appalachian Highway Scenic Byways, secretary/treasurer of Cherokee County IDA and treasurer and board member of Friends of the Little River Canyon National Preserve. She received the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama’s Chamber Professional of the Year award in 2021, the Rotary Club of Centre Distinguished Service Award in 2018, Red Cross Volunteer of the Year in 2011, America Values – Sequoyah Division for Boys Scouts – Volunteer of the Year in 2009 and AMLA’s Green Apple award in 2006. The Young Professional of the Year “Green Apple Award” is awarded to a person who has been in the tourism business less than seven years and has exhibited extraordinary leadership skills and initiative associated with their position.
She resides in the Tucker’s Chapel community on Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama with her husband, Duard, and loves to travel, plan events, gardening, outdoor adventures, puzzles, crafts and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
