Gov. Kay Ivey signed bill governing U.S. Space & Rocket Center

Huntsville, Ala. – Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey visited the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Monday, May 5, 2025, for a ceremonial signing of a bill recently passed by the state legislature. The bill addresses the statute governing the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, which is an agency of the State of Alabama.

The Rocket Center’s original statute was passed in 1965, and the new statute is intended to update that legislation. Changes include changing the name of Center’s board of directors from Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Commission.

Other changes include adding the governor as an ex-officio commission member, adjusting the length of terms commissioners can serve and imposing term limits for members. It also modernizes the Rocket Center’s operating rules and procedures.
