Decatur, Ala. – From cascading waterfalls and rockin’ music festivals, to exotic wildlife and legendary heritage sites, travel destinations across the 16 counties of North Alabama have made a splash into the vacation market with the release of a series of custom productions by The Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association (AMLA).
“Today’s savy travelers make extensive use of social media and internet websites to research the places they wish to visit and to explore new adventure opportunities for their leisure time,” explained AMLA President/CEO Tami Reist.
“The release of these videos puts the North Alabama tourism industry on the leading edge of tourism marketing by utilizing all the available tools for us to attract more visitors to the region,” she said.
Video shoots were conducted over the past 18 months at locations in each of the northern-most counties of Alabama to produce a total of 16 five-minute long videos, one for each county served by AMLA.
The videos may be seen at a number of media websites, including the AMLA website at www.northalabama.org/explore/counties.
“The videos have been provided to chambers of commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureaus in each of the counties free for their use,” said Reist. The videos may also be found on You Tube, Facebook pages, and other internet social sites, she said.
“The videos are available for local economic development organizations, state and federal elected officials, and will appear in Alabama Welcome Centers in the coming months,” Reist said.
The travel and tourism industry generates more than $2.1 billion dollars annually for the economy of North Alabama, and provides more than 28,000 jobs for residents. Visitors to the region spend money at lodging facilities, restaurants, for entertainment, at retail stores, and for automobile related services. Travelers provide almost $11 million annually in hotel lodging taxes for the region.
AMLA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the travel industry within the 16 northernmost counties of the state. It is supported by 450-plus members consisting of chambers of commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureaus, attractions, campgrounds, festivals, communities, counties, golf courses, restaurants, tour operators, accommodations, vendors, financial institutions and individuals.
