CNN Names Fort Payne Top 25 Retirement Cities

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) — A CNN Money Magazine story touts Fort Payne, AL as one of the “25 Best Places to Retire.”

Located about an hour southwest of Chattanooga, the Alabama town is nestled between Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain, and boasts a wide array of culture and events.

A median income of $48,186, an average home price of less than $100,000 and an average temperature of 70 degrees combine for an attractive destination for visitors and retirees alike.

DeSoto State Park, along with Little River Canyon National Preserve, offer outdoors activities filled with wilderness and waterfalls.

The Alabama Band Fan Club Museum (the country band, not the state or football team) adds a touch of small-town feel, as does the annually-held ‘World’s Longest Yard Sale’ each August.

The nearby city of Huntsville, AL also made the list.
